Melanie Werdon received her B.Sc. degree in Geology from Michigan Technological University, and her Ph.D. in Economic Geology from the University of Alaska. Melanie has worked as a mine and exploration geologist, and as a geologist with the U.S.G.S. Since 1999, she has worked as a mapper and geological scientist for the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys, and currently serves as chief of the mineral resources section. She and her team fly airborne geophysical surveys over Alaska’s mineral belts, and conduct follow-up geologic mapping and geochemical sampling. Melanie has also conducted district- and statewide-scale mineral-resource assessments in Alaska.
