Darla-Jean is a First Nations woman, born and raised in the Yukon and belongs to the Daklaweidi (Wolf) Clan from the Killer Whale Long House of Tagish Yukon. Darla-Jean’s First Nation name, “Adax Ayamdagoot”, one meaning suggests, that she “moves with a purpose”.
The Daklaweidi clan of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation (CTFN), appointed Darla-Jean to be one of six clan representatives to the Executive Council for the Government of CTFN on October 2021. A recent appointment (October 2022) found Darla-Jean as the Deputy Haa Shaa du Hen (Deputy Chief). Darla-Jean’s experience, knowledge and education has always involved projects/programs/services that benefitted the First Nation people, such as housing, health and education. Darla has sat on various boards and committees for the Yukon Government, such Children and Family Services (review and revise the Family Act), Ta’an Kwäch’än First Nation (Justice Council), Yukon College (Board of Governance), and Carcross/Tagish First Nation teams included Family Council (preparing and implementing the Family Act), with Peace Making Program (course development and implementation).
Darla’s passion for the last fourteen years was working the front lines of health and social issues at the Whitehorse General Hospital. Darla’s strong leadership, ability to communicate, and desire to assist in the formation of her First Nation for a better place to live, grow, and develop.
