Ian Telfer

Chairman, Aris Gold

Ian Telfer is a Canadian mining sector executive, entrepreneur and philanthropist with more than 30 years of experience and service in the Canadian resource sector. Ian is currently the Chairman of Aris Gold and Board Director of NEO, a Canadian stock exchange. Ian previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Goldcorp Inc. from 2005 – 2019.

Goldcorp was Canada’s leading gold producer, with over 15,000 employees prior to being acquired by Newmont for $15 billion in 2019. Born in Oxford, England, Ian moved to Canada and earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto and after sometime in the workforce, a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Ottawa. Ian then went on to begin a career in the international resource sector where he established and lead a number of successful mining companies, including TVX Gold, Wheaton River Minerals, Wheaton Precious Metals and Uranium One. In 2009, Ian Telfer was appointed the Chairman of the World Gold Council, where he served in until 2013. His mining career has been celebrated with his induction into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2015, the Business Laureates of British Columbia (BLBC) Hall of Fame in 2016, and the Canadian Business Hall of Fame in 2017.
