Mary-Carmen Vera

Facilitator, Cree Mineral Exploration Board

Miss Mary-Carmen Vera was born and raced in Peru and is a Canadian citizen since
2002, holds a bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering and has worked in Mine
production and Mineral Exploration in her early years as a Geologist in Peru, Chile
and Australia. Upon her arrival in Canada in 2002, she has worked for Wemindji
Exploration Inc. as the Company’s General Manager. She is now a consultant in
Mineral Exploration, Sustainable Mining, Community Relations and Social
Responsibility for First Nation Communities.
Miss Vera is also since 2011 a Facilitator for the Cree Mineral Exploration Board,
and conducts Mining 101 and Community Relations 101 workshops delivered to
the Cree Communities focusing on Economic Development Opportunities in the
Extractive Industry and to the Industry on how to optimize their relations with the
communities.
She finds that the 19 years she has worked and lived in the Cree Communities in
Northern Quebec have been a great opportunity to learn about aboriginal
traditions, concerns and how to inform them in a more practical format about the
activities being carried out by the extractive industry. She’s currently a board
member of the Quebec Exploration Association (AEMQ), executive board member
of the CIM – Val d’Or Branch, and member of the CIM National ESRS working group.
