Melanie Werdon received her B.Sc. degree in Geology from Michigan Technological University, and her Ph.D. in Economic Geology from the University of Alaska. She has previously worked as a mine and exploration geologist, and as a geologist with the U.S.G.S. Since 1999, Melanie has worked as a geologic mapper and geological scientist for the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys, and currently serves as chief of the Mineral Resources section. She and the Mineral Resources team fly airborne geophysical surveys over Alaska’s mineral belts, and conduct follow-up geologic mapping, geochemical sampling, and mineral-resource assessments throughout Alaska.
