Shaun Baker

Director, Mineral Deposit Research Unit, The University of British Columbia

Shaun Barker is the Director of the Mineral Deposit Research Unit at The University of British Columbia, a role he has held since November, 2020. Shaun, in his role as MDRU director, focuses on delivering impactful research across the mining value chain, with a particular focus on mineral exploration.Shaun has carried out research on a series of deposit types, including Carlin-type gold deposits, low sulfidation epithermal gold deposits, IOCG deposits, metamorphic copper, and porphyry copper deposits. Shaun has expertise on lithogeochemistry, mineralogy, mineral chemistry and stable isotopes. One of Shaun’s particular interests is the application and integration of new analytical technology and data analytics to deliver new exploration tools for the minerals industry.
