Legislative changes pushing for more expedited project approval requires starting a new working relationship with Indigenous Nations to be able to ensure their agreement with an expedited process.

This course offers approaches for co-constructing projects with Indigenous communities and supporting Indigenous decision making. This can be done through mechanisms such as Indigenous-led assessments, and project co-design. This course will discuss and provide tools on how involving Indigenous communities in project design and the assessment process can support building consensus on assessment accuracy and key issues like effects management and mitigation measures and on regulatory outcomes.

This course will give Indigenous nations and industry proponents tools for innovative project planning and assessment through the following modules:

  • Early engagement and strategic
  • Co-designing projects and processes with engineers and Knowledge Keepers
  • Indigenous Led Assessment and consent-based decision making
  • Partnership agreements for project co-design
