Free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) testing will be available Tuesday, January 24th and Wednesday, January 25th for delegates at Roundup. The free PSA testing is hosted by AME and will be provided by Life Labs with support from Prostate Cancer Foundation BC and Prostate Cancer Support Canada.

Those interested in taking advantage of the free testing, will be advised that 10-minute appointments can be arranged at the Prostate Cancer Foundation BC information table set up in the foyer Monday to Wednesday during Roundup. LifeLabs will be on-site in the Meeting Room 7, on Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 AM – 4PM, to do the testing.

Prostate Cancer Foundation BC encourages men to get a baseline test with follow-up testing annually starting in their fifties – or beginning at age 45 if they are at greater risk of prostate cancer due to family history or genetics.

Naloxone Training

St. John Ambulance will be providing Naloxone training onsite at AME Roundup 2023 on Thursday, January 26th, 9 am-2:30 pm, in Meeting Room 7. Naloxone training will cover:

• What opioids are and what opioid poisoning is;
• How to identify the signs and symptoms of an opioid poisoning emergency;
• How to respond to opioid poisoning using the “SAVE ME” steps and the naloxone nasal spray;
• Participants will receive a naloxone kit (while supplies last) at the end of the session.

Training times: 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, 2 PM

Therapy Dog Program

The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program will be onsite at Roundup on Monday, January 23.

The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program reaches out to thousands of people across Canada, on a daily basis. The program brings comfort, joy, and companionship to members of the community who reside in long-term care, hospitals and mental health facilities, to name a few. Program participants reap the therapeutic benefits of the unconditional companionship of a four-legged friend.

St. John Ambulance will also be providing information on their Brigade Program, which recruits, trains, and deploys highly skilled volunteers to provide first-aid services at community gatherings and celebrations. Every year, their Medical First Responder volunteers oversee the safety of spectators at countless community events across the province as well as at various government initiatives.

The Brigade also involves a Cadet program, which provides young volunteers with opportunities to develop and refine leadership and teamwork skills, while providing training in first-aid and other health-related areas.
