Discovery Day is FREE family fun! Experience mineral exploration and mining and the technology that makes it possible in a hands-on, interactive day of learning, getting kids excited about STEM in BC.
This is a free, non-ticketed event that does not require registration.

Bring the whole family to experience the science behind mineral exploration in an interactive earth science activity day with hands-on activities for all ages, including:
- Panning for gold with Yukon Dan, a world champion gold panner!
- 3D printing with metals from BCIT Centre for Applied Research & Innovation, home of the Teck Copper Innovation Hub
- Tour a real remote mineral exploration camp with Equity Exploration
- Learn what’s in your electronic device and where it comes from with Geological Survey of Canada
- 3D modeling of mines and drilling from VRIFY
- Meet mascots Buddy the Miner, Betty the Miner, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC‘s Spike
- Activities for younger children, including stickers, colouring books, temporary tattoos and more
- Free face painting, balloon twisting, hot chocolate, coffee, tea, popcorn and cotton candy
- Plus ancient fossils, spectacular minerals, billion-year-old rocks and other displays from Below BC, Britannia Mine Museum, British Columbia Geological Survey, British Columbia Society of Engineering and Geology (BCSEG), UBC Geering Up, MineralsEd, Pacific Museum of Earth, Port Moody Rock & Gem, Science World, SFU Earth Sciences Lab, South Fraser Search and Rescue, and Women in Mining BC with Royanna Rocks.
Activities recommended for aged 4-12 years old.
