John Crowther

John Crowther is Commissioner-designee of Alaska’s Department of Natural Resources. He’s held multiple roles within DNR since 2012, most recently as Deputy Commissioner, and has served under 8 other commissioners. John leads a dedicated staff of 900 full-time and about 300 seasonal employees in the department’s mission to develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska’s natural resources consistent with the public interest. DNR encompasses divisions as varied as Agriculture, Forestry, Geological & Geophysical Surveys, Mining, Land & Water, Oil & Gas, and Parks & Outdoor Recreation.
Earlier in his public service career, John was Director of the Governor’s Washington, D.C. office as well as a staffer on the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College and law degree from Georgetown University.
