Council Member Kyle Shottanana brings six years of thoughtful and culturally grounded leadership to the Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqi’it First Nation Council, currently serving his second term. His portfolio in Language and Culture is guided by a strong foundation in cultural values, ensuring that every decision reflects the Nation’s traditions and teachings. Kyle is deeply passionate about preserving and sharing the history and stories of his people, often ending meetings with thought-provoking stories that invite reflection and connection. His leadership is grounded in wisdom, thoughtfulness, and a deep respect for the Ktunaxa way. Outside of Council, Kyle is a tireless advocate for youth, dedicating his time to sports, cultural activities, and teaching traditional knowledge. His presence in the community is a constant reminder of the importance of nurturing the next generation and keeping cultural practices alive. Kyle’s work reflects a vision of empowerment, identity, and continuity for Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqi’it.
